Mana Road Trip
Moke, having worked on ranches while growing in Kona, must have been familiar with the Mana Road that went from Waimea to the Humu’ula Sheep Station. In January 2018 I was fortunate to have been invited by Dr. Billy Bergin to be part of a group that spent three days and two nights traveling on and learning the history associated with the Mana Road. Dr. Bergin, retired Parker Ranch veterinarian, Dr. Peter Mills, archeologist from UH Hilo, and Sonny Keakealani, retired paniolo (cowboy) shared knowledge and stories making this a most interesting and rewarding educational experience. Meals prepared by Bill Bergin, a fire captain, were a bonus. Some images from the trip are in the Photo Gallery-Mana Road Trip.
